New York Theatre Guide: The Merchant of Venice

Opening up in the coming weeks, this New York theatre play has been hailed as one of the most anticipated of the season. The classic piece by Shakespeare details the play in which a character takes a loan and offers a pound of flesh in the case that he is unable to pay. As events occur, he is indeed unable to pay the loan once it comes due and the tale comes to detail just how the repayment is going to occur.

Daniel Sullivan directs the play that has been hailed one of the best Merchant of Venice plays that most reviewers have ever seen. Sullivan has been able to create a modern version of the play that will have audience members seeing Shakespeare in a completely new light.

Leading the cast in the play is Al Pacino – so theatre guests can see the true calling of the actor. He takes on the role of Shylock in a riveting performance of one of a modern version of the play. This is a change from the usual character that we are used to seeing Pacino play in action roles – and guests will be delighted at the transformation that occurs in the Merchant of Venice.

This is an essential play to see through the season and it is important to find tickets now as they are sure to sell out quickly after the play debuts on the 19th of October. There are only seventy-eight shows that are going to be displayed on stage – so act quick and see the modern art piece that is the Merchant of Venice.
